Connecting Foster and Kinship Carers of SA

This program honours often forgotten volunteer workers, by skilling them to become paid employees of the future. It provides a model for how to transition, value, utilise and keep a volunteer workforce.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Child Protection Out of Home Care System. Many have significant experience and years of training, but not a vocational qualification that reflects their expertise. The Connecting Foster and Kinship Carers of SA program delivers a bespoke program to facilitate training and accreditation for foster and kinship volunteer carers.

Aiming to raise qualification profiles and status, lift economic participation through paid work in child protection, and retain carers, the program is improving outcomes for carers, children, young people and families. Recognition and contextualisation were key to a high 98.7% completion rate since 2018, with 106 graduates now achieving a Diploma of Community Services.

Service Stream Ltd and TAFE SA

Service Stream provides integrated end-to-end asset lifecycle services to utility, telecommunications and transport asset owners, operators and regulators across Australia. The company specialises in design, construction, operation and maintenance of assets across these networks, delivering services across power, gas, water and renewable energy utilities, roads, rail, ITS, and fixed and wireless telecommunication networks.

As the public provider of vocational education and training (VET), TAFE SA ensures all South Australians have access to quality education and skills training across the state.

In a ground-breaking partnership, TAFE SA and Service Stream have developed an industry leading bespoke qualification to enable trainees to acquire a nationally recognised qualification - Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (Networks). Together, the two organisations are dedicated to driving a collective vision of the development of a highly skilled and engaged water and wastewater industry.
