Elkira Simmons is a proud Wakka Wakka woman who has built a strong foundation for her career through a Certificate III in Business, and a traineeship in recruitment and administration.

Her VET experience has developed practical workplace skills in communication, organisation and customer service, while also building her confidence and professionalism. Transitioning from self-doubt to a permanent role at Maxima, Elkira has demonstrated consistent growth and commitment to excellence.

What sets Elkira apart is her leadership and advocacy. She actively promotes training pathways at community events including NAIDOC Week and school expos, encouraging other First Nations young people to pursue education and employment opportunities.

Through her positive attitude, strong work ethic and pride in her culture, Elkira is not only building her own career, but inspiring others to believe in themselves and take the next step in their training journey.

This award recognises the achievement of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who is undertaking an apprenticeship, traineeship, or a course of study leading to a nationally recognised qualification.

The award recognises the student has been outstanding in all aspects of their training.
