Making changes

Need to make a change to your training contract?

We understand that life doesn't always go to plan. If something changes, that affects your training contract, or if you experience a problem with your employer, you have options.

Change your employer

If your employer can no longer deliver what was promised in your training contract, you can ask to work with a different employer.

Before you do so, it's important you speak to us so we can guide you through the process.

Keeping your promise

There are many reasons why you might be exploring changing employers. When you signed your training contract, you agreed to certain rights and obligations.

If something is not going well, it's important you speak with your employer before making a change. Mutual agreement is needed to change the contract.

Coming to a mutual agreement may not always be possible. Discuss your options with the South Australian Skills Commission on 1800 673 097.

You can also speak with your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider who may be able to meet with you and your employer.

Update your training contract

If something happens that means you need to make a change to your training contract, you should first speak with your employer, training provider or both to reach an agreement on the changes required.

For example, you might want to suspend your training contract for personal reasons.

You can apply to make changes to your traineeship or apprenticeship to the South Australian Skills Commission.

Your employer can apply via mySkillsSA or you can complete an application form.

If any of the parties to the agreement do not agree to the changes then the dispute needs to be submitted to the South Australian Skills Commission for mediation and/or resolution.

Where a resolution cannot be achieved all parties to the agreement may be referred to the South Australian Employment Tribunal.
