Support for apprentices impacted by the downturn in Whyalla steelmaking

The South Australian Skills Commission (SASC) is partnering with the Apprenticeship Employment Network SA (AEN SA) and group training organisations operating in Whyalla to support local apprentices experiencing disruption to their employment, including job loss or a reduction in hours.

Through the South Australian Government’s new Apprentice Retention Program, AEN SA aims to connect all impacted apprentices with new host employers so they may continue on their career path.

Throughout this disrupted period (while a new employer is being identified):

Additionally, apprentices who are entering their final, fourth year of study will be prioritised for early completion of their apprenticeship.

Impacted apprentices are encouraged to contact the South Australian Skills Commission on telephone 1800 673 097 or email skillscommission@sa.gov.au for further support.
