Every two years, more than 500 Regional Competitions take place across 34 regions throughout Australia. These events showcase the skills and knowledge of over 4,000 apprentices, trainees and students, who compete for gold, silver and bronze medals and the chance to progress to the national stage. The next Regional Competition year are taking place in 2026.
Running from February to October 2026, the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competitions will be held right across the country, bringing together apprentices, trainees and students to test their skills against industry benchmarks in real-world, high-pressure environments.
On 6 Feb 2026, WorldSkills Australia launched its 2026 Regional Competitions in Adelaide, marking the first step on the pathway that will see Australia’s best young trades and skills talent progress from regional competitions to the national stage – and ultimately for some, the world stage.
On 22 April 2026, it was the first time the category has run in Australia in over 30 years. Held at Adelaide Gaol in partnership with FCTA - Building Careers, the competition marked a revival for this highly skilled trade.
On 7-8 May 2026, PEER hosted the Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning competitions at the Adelaide Careers and Employment Expo - a showcase of career pathways and opportunities for students considering a future in the trades.
